Sexually transmitted infections (STIs) and sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) are, as their names suggest, bacteria, viruses, fungi etc. that can be contracted when engaging in unprotected sexual activity. According to the World Health Organization (WHO) more than 1 million STIs are acquired every day.
